The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has levelled serious accusations against the Federal Government, claiming the presidency is targeting opposition leaders out of fear rather than justice.

Oladimeji Fabiyi, a member of the ADC National Working Committee, made the allegations while criticising the government's handling of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai's detention. Fabiyi described the action as retaliatory and politically motivated.

In a strongly worded statement, Fabiyi questioned the selective nature of the government's anti-corruption campaign, pointing out that numerous members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) face similar corruption allegations yet remain untouched by authorities.

The ADC official argued that the presidency's actions reveal a pattern of intimidation against opposition figures, suggesting the government is more concerned with silencing critics than addressing genuine cases of corruption.

El-Rufai, a prominent member of the APC who has fallen out with the current administration, has been at the centre of political controversy. His detention has drawn criticism from various opposition quarters who view it as part of a broader crackdown on dissenting voices.

Fabiyi's comments add to growing concerns about the state of Nigeria's democracy, with opposition parties increasingly vocal about what they describe as the weaponisation of state institutions against political opponents.

The Federal Government has yet to respond to these specific allegations, though it has previously defended its anti-corruption efforts as impartial and thorough.
