Abuja Municipal Area Council Chairman Christopher Maikalangu said his second term will focus on extending road projects, school improvement and additional health centres to more communities across the council.
Maikalangu made the pledge on Monday, 2 March 2026, during a congratulatory visit by supporters, political associates and council staff after his re-election. He thanked residents for renewing his mandate and said his administration would build on what it achieved in its first term.
“I want to sincerely thank my people for their support. By the grace of God, we will not disappoint you. In this second term, we will do more,” he said.
The chairman said his first tenure delivered road works and human capital interventions, but added that development would be spread to additional communities in this new term. He said available resources had made it difficult to cover every area at once, and that his administration now intends to widen delivery.
“Yes, we have constructed roads, but the resources cannot take care of every community at once. In this second term, we will extend development to more areas. Some communities will get roads, some will get schools, others will benefit from improved health centres,” he said.
Maikalangu described local government leadership as practical and community-facing, saying residents judge performance by visible service delivery and accessibility of elected officials.
“This is local government. My people don’t need big grammar. They need to see you around them. They need to see what you give back to them. That is what matters,” he said.
He also called for post-election cooperation, inviting former rivals to work with his administration in what he described as a collective effort to move AMAC forward.
“I am open to everybody. Those who contested against me are free to come and work together with us. We must carry everyone along for the progress of AMAC,” he said.
The chairman thanked council workers, including LEA staff, and acknowledged support from FCT leadership. Residents present at the event praised performance in his first term, especially road construction and empowerment programmes, and said they expect faster delivery in the next phase.
The second-term plan outlined at the event places basic infrastructure, education support and primary health access at the centre of AMAC’s local development agenda.
