Nollywood actress and reality television personality Annie Macaulay has clarified how she now describes her family situation, saying she is “a single woman raising two kids,” not a single mother.
The clarification came in an Instagram post where she drew a distinction between the two labels and said her wording reflects how she sees herself at this stage of her life.
Macaulay shares two daughters, Olivia and Isabella, with singer Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba. The couple separated in January 2025 after years of public attention around their relationship.
Since the separation, both figures have remained in the public eye, with fans and entertainment observers closely following their personal updates.
In earlier comments, Macaulay had said she hoped her daughter would understand her worth and avoid the kind of marital difficulties she experienced. Her recent statement continues that theme of self-definition and emotional recovery.
2Baba later confirmed he was in a relationship with Natasha Osawaru, a member of the Edo State House of Assembly. He proposed in February 2025 and married her in July of the same year.
The singer also said Osawaru was not the reason for his separation from Macaulay, attempting to address speculation that had circulated online after the relationship became public.
For months after the split, Macaulay stayed mostly quiet in public discussions. She eventually acknowledged the separation openly in April 2025.
At the 17th edition of The Headies, she introduced herself using her maiden name while presenting an award, reinforcing her message that she is now living independently.
Her latest statement has generated fresh conversation on social media, especially around language used to describe women navigating separation, parenting and identity in the spotlight.
Some supporters said her phrasing reflects personal agency and dignity, while others debated whether the distinction changes practical realities for mothers raising children after marriage breakdown.
In Nigeria’s entertainment space, where celebrity relationships often become public property, personal declarations like this frequently shape media narratives beyond the original post.
For Macaulay, however, the focus appears less on debate and more on ownership of her story. By choosing her own words, she signalled that she wants to define her status on her terms while continuing to raise her children outside her former marriage.
The post adds another chapter to a highly visible personal transition that has unfolded across social platforms, red carpets and interviews over the past year.
