The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, has inaugurated the National Central Coordinating Committee that will oversee the ruling party's upcoming National Convention.
Former Governor of Katsina State, Honourable Aminu Masari, has been appointed to head the committee, bringing decades of political experience and administrative expertise to the assignment.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony held in Abuja, Yilwatda emphasised that the convention represents more than a routine party gathering. He described it as an affirmation of democratic values, a celebration of internal democracy, and a demonstration to Nigerians that the APC remains the nation's most organised, forward-looking, and viable political platform.
Addressing Masari directly, the APC national chairman said, "Your acceptance of this responsibility is a further demonstration of your selfless commitment to the APC and Nigeria. We are honoured to have you at the helm of affairs of this committee, and we are confident you will do yeoman service to the assignment given to you by the party."
Yilwatda noted that all committee members were carefully selected based on their proven integrity, wealth of experience, and unwavering commitment to the ideals of the party. He charged them to deliver a convention that would be transparent, inclusive, credible, and befitting of a ruling party of great stature.
"You have been called upon to plan and deliver a convention that would be transparent, inclusive, credible, and befitting of a ruling party of great stature like the APC," he stated. "I charge you all to rise above partisan interest and personal sentiment. Let the good of this party, the colour of APC, guide you in every decision that you make."
The national chairman stressed that time is of the essence and expected nothing short of excellence from every committee member. He assured the committee of full support from the National Working Committee and the entire party structure.
"You shall have the resources, cooperation, and goodwill required to deliver on this mandate," Yilwatda promised. "Let history remember you today. We have set in motion the wheels that are required to get the convention ready, which will further strengthen our party and renew the collective will of our party members."
In his response, Masari accepted the responsibility with a great sense of duty and commitment to the ideals and aspirations of the APC. He described the national convention as not merely a statutory requirement but a defining moment for the party.
"This is a platform for reflection, consolidation, and renewal of commitment," Masari said. "The task before the committee is clear: to coordinate all activities leading to a peaceful, credible, and successful 2026 national convention."
He assured party members that the committee would approach the assignment with maturity, fairness, and strict adherence to the party's constitution and guidelines.
"Our objectives will be to conduct a civil and free convention that will strengthen and unify our party, in order to reinforce confidence in the party's internal mechanisms," Masari stated. "We shall work closely with the National Working Committee and all relevant organs of the party to ensure a successful outcome."
The inauguration marks a significant step in the APC's preparations for its 2026 National Convention, which is expected to reposition the party ahead of future electoral contests.
