Senator Ibrahim Mohammed Bomai has begun distributing food items across 553 polling units in Yobe South as Muslim families prepare for Ramadan, with aides saying the support will reach thousands of households.
The lawmaker, who represents Yobe South Senatorial District, said the distribution includes rice, sugar and spaghetti. The intervention covers four local government areas in the district: Potiskum, Fika, Nangere and Fune.
According to Bomai, the exercise is designed to ease pressure on families during the fasting period, when household spending on food often rises. He said the outreach is not limited to a few communities, adding that stakeholders across the constituency are included in the plan.
His team said each polling unit is expected to have at least 80 beneficiary households. On that estimate, the total reach could run into tens of thousands of homes across the district.
Residents and political observers in the area have linked the current exercise to Bomai’s wider constituency record. Over time, he has been credited with projects in road construction and rehabilitation in both rural and urban communities, drainage improvements, and solar street lighting. Supporters also point to health interventions, education support and programmes targeted at women and young people.
The senator has also been associated with scholarship opportunities for students seeking to study abroad, as well as ICT support and skills development efforts in parts of the constituency. Water supply projects are also listed among the interventions attributed to his office.
Abubakar MB Tamana, a legislative aide to the senator, said Bomai had justified the confidence of voters in Yobe South. Tamana said the senator had shown strong representation and remained distinct among lawmakers who have served the constituency.
The latest distribution comes amid rising political speculation ahead of the 2027 election cycle in Yobe State. Some constituents have begun calling on Bomai to contest the governorship race, arguing that he could build on the current administration’s direction under Governor Mai Mala Buni.
For now, the senator’s camp said the immediate focus remains the Ramadan food outreach, with distribution still ongoing in the affected polling units.
