The Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM) said its National President, Barr. Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri, is facing alleged death threats linked to his public comments on insecurity in Plateau State.
In a statement dated Saturday, February 28, 2026, BYM National Publicity Secretary Rwang Tengwong said the group received what he called credible intelligence indicating an imminent threat to Mwantiri’s life. Tengwong said the threat followed Mwantiri’s repeated public criticism of killings, attacks on indigenous communities and violence attributed to suspected Fulani bandits and terrorists in parts of Plateau.
According to Tengwong, intelligence available to the association points to alleged clandestine efforts by armed Fulani militants to eliminate the youth leader, including claims that a bounty was placed on him and that local collaborators were being used.
He said the threats were tied to Mwantiri’s advocacy and his continued engagement on what he described as persistent attacks, armed invasions and land-grabbing in affected communities. Tengwong said those incidents had led to the death of more than 3,000 Berom people, mostly women and children, and had worsened the humanitarian situation in several communities.
"Available intelligence reveals that these criminal elements, angered by his fearless advocacy, have allegedly placed a huge bounty on his head and are actively perfecting dangerous plots to track his movements and cause him harm," Tengwong said.
He added that the alleged plot included surveillance, trailing, infiltration through local collaborators and other covert methods that could cause physical or psychological harm.
Tengwong said BYM sees the development as a threat not only to its president but also to freedom of speech, civic participation, peace advocacy and community leadership in Plateau State. He warned that any attack on Mwantiri over his advocacy would amount to an attack on democracy, justice and peace.
The association called on the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services, the Nigerian Army, Operation Enduring Peace and other security agencies to provide protection for Mwantiri and begin a thorough investigation into the alleged threats.
