Christopher varsity matriculates 184, warns against drugs has drawn renewed public attention as more details emerged from officials and eyewitness accounts on Thursday.

Christopher University, Ogun State, on Thursday, matriculated 184 students for the 2025/2026 academic session across its schools of Allied Health Sciences, Business Studies, Law, Science and Technology, and Social Sciences.

The ceremony, held at the Chinua Achebe Auditorium, saw the Vice Chancellor, Prof Oyelana Olatunji, caution the new students against drug abuse and cultism.

Oyelana said, “We have zero tolerance for drug abuse and other drug-related crimes. Kindly be warned.

“We have had instances where we suspended students for one or more years for breaking our rules, while some students have been expelled from the university for engaging in drug-related offences.”

Rather, he urged the students to remain focused on their dreams, make the right choices, associate with positive peers, and regularly self-evaluate to stay on track for academic success.

“A long-term focus on your dreams and aspirations is required to enable you sieve through the troubles and challenges the world with throw at you.

“This strategy will help you make the right choices, take the right decisions, associate with the right people, build the right attitudes, project the right spirit, inculcate the right values, sustain helpful friends and avoid friends and situations that will distract you from your ultimate goals of academic success.

“Always ensure you self-evaluate to seek improvements and to correct your wrongs, while guiding your steps into success,” Oyelana said.

He said the institution remained committed to producing graduates who are “foremost God-fearing and imbued with excellent moral and ethical standards in their respective careers and professions.”

The VC, at the ceremony, also disclosed that the university planned to commence postgraduate studies by June.

He listed the six proposed PG programmes as Accounting, Economics, Psychology, Computer Science, Business Administration and Mass Communication.

“We will commence our postgraduate studies by June 2026. Our request and proposals are receiving positive attention from the National Universities Commission.

“We have been assured of their final approvals in the next few weeks,” Oyelana said.

The Founder/Chancellor of Christopher University, Christopher Ezeh, emphasised self-discipline as the foundation of success.

Ezeh said, “As teenagers, you are prone to a lot of distractions, especially in this fast-paced world of technology and a westernised lifestyle.

“A lack of self-discipline can easily lead one to derail and get carried away on campus.”

Represented by the Bursar, Mr Francis Ezeh, he warned students against distractions from technology and westernised lifestyles and encouraged them to balance academic, social, and spiritual aspects of university life.

Ezeh said, “University education is not restrictive; it is all-embracing. The aim is to produce an integrated personality, competent and confident enough to function in a civilised society.

“Therefore, you have to participate in all aspects of your training while at the university: academic, social and spiritual.”

Present at the ceremony were other members of management and staff of the university; Head of Matriculation and Monitoring, Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, Mrs Ibiwoye Kafayat; and family members of the new students.

The roll-call of academics present included Registrar, Mr Aloysius Udeoke; Librarian, Mrs Ogechi Agu; Deans: Dr Chinedum Oparaugo (Allied Health Services); Dr Paul Olojede (Business Studies); Dr Ngozi Ole (Law); Dr Fortune Obikwere (Science and Technology); and Dr Samuel Obot (Social Sciences).
