The Christian Police Fellowship of Nigeria (CPFN) has welcomed the appointment of Olatunji Disu as Acting Inspector-General of Police, describing his emergence as a key moment for public safety and confidence in policing.
In a statement released to Sunday Independent, CPFN National President Bishop Dr Chidi Anthony congratulated Disu and said the new police leadership must combine firmness with fairness as the country confronts insecurity and public trust concerns.
Anthony said the fellowship believes Disu’s tenure can strengthen professional standards in the Nigeria Police Force if officers rally behind his direction and if reforms are pursued with discipline. He added that the police hierarchy now has an opportunity to focus on service delivery, justice and closer engagement with citizens.
“We believe that Nigeria will prevail under your committed leadership,” Anthony said, while praying that God would grant Disu wisdom, courage and strength for the role.
He also said police leadership should keep integrity and equity at the centre of law enforcement, noting that “Your leadership is a beacon of hope for a better tomorrow.”
According to him, officers and men of the force should support the Acting IGP so that security efforts can produce visible results in communities across the country. “Together, we can make a difference in the lives of Nigerians,” he said.
Anthony, who is also General Overseer of Kings In Christ Power Ministries and President of the Pentecostal Ministers Forum, urged the new police chief to prioritise community policing. He said deeper collaboration with local communities would help address root causes of violence and crime, rather than relying only on reactive enforcement.
“We urge you to be bold, courageous, and unwavering in your commitment to serving the nation,” Anthony said. “Remember that your leadership is not just about enforcing laws, but about serving humanity and promoting peace.”
The cleric said Nigeria is facing a defining period and called for unity around institutions responsible for law and order. “We are at a critical juncture in our nation’s history, but we are not without hope. With leaders like IGP Olatunji Disu at the helm, we are confident that Nigeria will overcome its challenges and emerge stronger,” he said.
He added that the Christian community and CPFN are ready to work with the new police leadership to promote peace, security and nation-building.
