The All Progressives Congress in Cross River State has formally declared its unalloyed support for Governor Bassey Otu and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections, vowing to deliver victory for the party at all levels.

The declaration was made during a state party stakeholders meeting held in Calabar, where leaders from the 18 local government areas converged to strategise on consolidating the partys grip on the state.

Addressing journalists after the closed-door session, the State Chairman of the APC, Alphonsus Eba, emphasised that the party was fully united behind Governor Otus administration and President Tinubus Renewed Hope Agenda. He dismissed rumours of internal wrangling, insisting that all interests had been harmonised for the collective good.

We have resolved to work as a united family. Governor Otu has performed exceptionally well, and President Tinubus policies are beginning to yield positive results. Come 2027, we will not only retain Cross River for the APC, we will deliver overwhelming votes for the President, Eba stated.

Governor Otu, who assumed office in May 2023 after winning on the APC platform, has embarked on several infrastructure and social welfare programmes across the state. His supporters credit him with stabilising the states political landscape following years of intra-party disputes.

The pledge of support for Tinubus second term bid comes even as the President continues to navigate economic reforms that have drawn mixed reactions from Nigerians. The removal of fuel subsidies and the floating of the naira have been particularly contentious, though the administration insists these measures are necessary for long-term stability.

Political analysts view the Cross River APCs early declaration as a signal of the partys determination to maintain its dominance in the South-South region. The state has historically been competitive, with the PDP controlling power for 16 years before the APCs breakthrough in 2023.

The stakeholders meeting also reviewed preparations for forthcoming local government elections in the state. The party leadership urged members to remain peaceful and law-abiding while intensifying grassroots mobilisation efforts.

Critics, however, have questioned the wisdom of focusing on 2027 when the current administration is barely two years into its mandate. Some opposition figures have dismissed the declaration as premature posturing designed to stifle internal dissent.

Nevertheless, the APC in Cross River appears determined to maintain its momentum. With Governor Otus loyalists firmly in control of the party machinery and the governors own reported closeness to the Tinubu presidency, the state chapter seems positioned to play a significant role in the 2027 electoral calculations.

As Nigerias political landscape continues to evolve, all eyes will be on how the ruling party manages both its internal dynamics and the broader economic challenges that will ultimately shape voter sentiment.
