As Ukraine marks four gruelling years since Russia's full-scale invasion began, the country remains remarkably defiant despite the immense toll the conflict has taken on its people and infrastructure.
A genuine ceasefire still feels far from assured, with both sides showing little appetite for meaningful compromise. Yet Ukraine's resolve appears unshaken, even as the war enters its fifth year with no clear end in sight.
Several factors contribute to this continued defiance. Ukrainian forces have successfully defended key territories and even regained some ground through determined counter-offensives. International military aid, despite occasional delays, has continued to flow into the country.
Perhaps more importantly, the Ukrainian population has demonstrated remarkable resilience. Years of Russian aggression have only strengthened national unity and the determination to preserve sovereignty.
While war fatigue is inevitable after such prolonged conflict, there is little evidence that Ukraine is close to capitulation. The country's leadership continues to insist that any settlement must respect Ukraine's territorial integrity - a position that remains non-negotiable for most Ukrainians.
