Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has issued a stern warning to his newly appointed Chief of Staff, Sunny Ewule, cautioning that any attempt to convene meetings or take decisions without his express approval will result in immediate dismissal from office.
The governor made this declaration on Thursday during the formal announcement of Ewule's appointment at Government House, Port Harcourt. Fubara emphasised that the Chief of Staff position is strictly a personal aide role, not a platform for independent action or unsanctioned gatherings.
"I want to be very clear about this: this position is under me. If you involve yourself in midnight meetings or attempt to act on your own without my instructions, I will sack you without hesitation, and I am very serious about this," Fubara stated firmly.
The governor also used the occasion to address the newly appointed Secretary to the State Government (SSG), a mathematics lecturer by profession, urging him to bring his academic rigour and objectivity to bear in his new role. Fubara noted that the SSG's background in education should translate into diligence and proper representation of the government in all official matters.
Reaffirming his administration's commitment to continuity, Fubara disclosed that his government remains focused on sustaining ongoing projects and advancing programmes inherited from previous administrations. He stressed that the ultimate objective is to guarantee peace, progress, and prosperity for all residents of Rivers State.
The governor warned that any conduct capable of bringing the government into disrepute would not be tolerated under any circumstances. He assured that the activities of all new appointees would be closely monitored to ensure alignment with government policies.
Expressing confidence in his selections, Fubara described the appointments as well-considered decisions aimed at bolstering the administration's delivery agenda.
In a separate directive to permanent secretaries present at the ceremony, the governor instructed those who have reached retirement age but remain in office to immediately begin preparing their handover notes. He further called for enhanced cooperation across the civil service, emphasising that teamwork remains crucial for effective governance and service delivery.
