Heirs Insurance Group has concluded the application phase for its Hackathon 2026 competition after receiving an overwhelming response from undergraduate teams across Nigeria.
The underwriting firm disclosed that it received a significant number of entries from students proposing innovative and practical solutions aimed at transforming the nation's insurance landscape.
In a statement announcing the closure of submissions, the company expressed appreciation to participants for the quality and depth of ideas presented.
"We received an impressive number of submissions from undergraduate teams across the country â each presenting bold, practical solutions to transform Nigeria's insurance systems. We sincerely appreciate every student who applied and helped make this edition truly inspiring," the statement read.
The company confirmed that it has commenced a comprehensive review and evaluation process, which will run from February through March 2026. Entries are currently being assessed by a panel comprising technology leaders and industry experts.
At the end of the review phase, 15 semi-finalist teams will be selected to advance to the interview stage, where they will present their ideas before the panel. From this pool, five finalist teams will emerge to participate in the core hackathon phase.
The Hackathon Kick-off, scheduled for March 2026, will feature brainstorming sessions, business modelling, mentorship workshops, coding, API integration and user testing with real customers.
The competition will culminate in a grand finale slated for April 2026, during which the five finalist teams will present functional Minimum Viable Product (MVP) solutions. Three winning teams will emerge and share in the N9 million prize pool.
