Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani and Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas have directed the new All Progressives Congress leadership in the state to mobilise strongly for the 2027 general election.

At the APC State Congress in Kaduna on Tuesday, both leaders said the party should work toward delivering more than two million votes for President Bola Tinubu in the next presidential contest. They also urged the new executives to match that level of support for Sani in the governorship race.

Isaac Atiku Sankay emerged as consensus chairman after consultations with party stakeholders across the 23 local government areas of the state. His emergence followed weeks of internal talks by party leaders who sought to present a united structure before the next election cycle.

Sani said the congress represented a major point for party cohesion and organisation in Kaduna. He said APC elected 6,885 ward executives across 255 wards and also produced 621 local government executives through earlier grassroots congresses. The governor added that 36 state executives were affirmed and sworn in, which he said reflected the depth of the party’s local network.

He argued that the use of consensus candidates should be seen as a sign of discipline and unity within the party. Sani restated his support for President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and said mobilisation would begin from polling units upward.

Abbas told the new executives to close ranks and bring together different interests in the party ahead of 2027. He commended the outgoing state leadership for previous electoral victories and said the new vote target is achievable if members remain focused and coordinated.

In his acceptance speech, Sankay thanked party leaders and members for the confidence placed in him. He said he would serve with discipline, courage and measurable results.

Sankay said his background in peace and conflict work involved partnerships with security agencies, traditional institutions, religious leaders and civil society groups. He pledged to strengthen internal democracy, deepen grassroots mobilisation and widen participation for young people and women.

Outgoing chairman Air Commodore Emmanuel Jekada (retd.) thanked members for their support during his eight-year tenure and said he was leaving behind a stronger and more united APC in Kaduna State.
