Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has issued a stern warning to commissioners and special advisers within his administration, telling them to enhance their work output or prepare to step down. The governor delivered this message during the Hawan Nasarawa Sallah homage ceremony in Kano, as confirmed by a statement from his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
Yusuf emphasized that political appointees must justify the trust placed in them by delivering tangible results and staying dedicated to good governance principles. He highlighted that accountability and measurable achievements remain central to his administration’s agenda. The governor urged members of the State Executive Council and other aides to renew their commitment to public service and support the government’s development objectives.
“Any appointee who fails to perform up to expectations should either improve or be ready to vacate office,” the governor said. He further clarified that his administration would not tolerate negligence, poor performance, lack of commitment, or disloyalty from any political appointee.
Despite the strict warnings, the governor praised the Commissioner for Environment, Dahir Hashim. He described Hashim as hard-working and creative, noting that the commissioner has demonstrated strong dedication and performance in promoting government programmes. Yusuf also highlighted Hashim’s role in improving communication between the administration and the public, despite being the youngest member of the State Executive Council.
The governor reaffirmed his stance on recognising and rewarding outstanding performance in public service. This directive comes as part of broader efforts to ensure efficiency and accountability across all levels of the Kano State government. Yusuf’s remarks underscore the administration’s zero-tolerance policy for underperformance among key officials.
In related news, legal experts have weighed in on parliamentary procedures, with Chinda asserting that only the Speaker can declare a lawmaker’s defection during plenary sessions. Meanwhile, tensions surrounding the Kano NDC 2027 tickets appear to have eased, as Gawuna agreed there is no rift, according to Kwankwaso spokesman Habeeb.
Other developments in Kano include the Fire Service rescuing three people from separate well incidents. Emir Sanusi has also urged Governor Yusuf to assert his authority amid recent unrest in the state. Additionally, Kano emirs have suspended durbar processions following police directives over security concerns. The National Centre for Disease Control has placed Kano, FCT, Lagos, and seven other states on high-risk alert for Ebola.
