Public affairs commentator Mahdi Shehu has taken a swipe at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) amid mounting uncertainty over the next political step of Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal.
In a post on his verified X account on Wednesday, Shehu reacted in sarcastic terms to developments around the party, arguing that events had moved beyond rhetoric and into hard political calculation.
He wrote, “DAUDA LAWAL DARE: PRAYERS ANSWERED?” and followed it with another line framed in religious imagery: “He knocked and the door was wide opened. He sought and asked and was granted all that is feasible and possible.”
Shehu then suggested that the current moment leaves little room for delay in decision-making. In his words: “No more leg dragging. No more knee jacking. No more grand standing. No more swearing. No more prayers. Survival instinct is the only visible human reality.”
He closed that part of his remarks with a pointed political jab: “Congratulations APC. RIP PDP. Sorry ADC.” He also made a separate comment about former President Olusegun Obasanjo, stating, “Obasanjo on limbo.”
The comments came as attention remained fixed on Governor Lawal’s political future. The governor had earlier said the outcome of the Court of Appeal judgment on the PDP leadership crisis would shape his next move.
At a PDP stakeholders’ meeting in Gusau, Lawal linked any possible defection to the court’s determination on two key issues: the legality of Kabiru Tanimu Turaki’s leadership and the validity of the party’s Ibadan convention.
Those remarks have intensified debate within political circles in Zamfara and beyond, especially ahead of the broader realignments expected before the 2027 election cycle. While no official defection has been announced, statements from both Lawal and observers such as Shehu have fuelled speculation about whether the PDP can keep key figures in states where internal disputes remain unresolved.
For now, the appeal court decision remains central to the calculations, with party stakeholders watching closely for what it could mean for PDP cohesion in Zamfara and for the wider balance among opposition and ruling blocs.
