The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons has opened a formal investigation into alleged child molestation and abuse at a daycare centre in Lagos, as public concern grows over claims circulating online.

The agency said its Director-General, Binta Adamu Bello, ordered operatives to begin a full inquiry after what it described as suggestive social media posts pointing to possible abuse in a daycare environment. The announcement was made on Friday through NAPTIP’s verified communication channels.

According to the agency, the investigation is already underway and members of the public are being encouraged to submit complaints or evidence through its official platforms. NAPTIP said every communication channel under the agency remains open for potential victims, witnesses, or families who may have relevant information.

In the public statement, the agency said: “Director General of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Binta Adamu Bello, OON, has directed Operatives of the Agency to commence a full-scale investigation into the alleged Child Molestation and Abuse in a Day-care setting in Lagos, as deduced from the suggestive online post by a popular Nigeria Singer.”

It added: “While appreciating the genuine concern of Nigerians on the matter, the Agency wishes to inform the general public that all its communication platforms are active and available to take complaints from anyone who may have been abused or violated on the said Day-care.”

The development follows earlier action by Lagos State authorities. The Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, Lola Vivour-Adeniyi, said in a Channels Television interview that the matter had been referred to the Commissioner of Police for preliminary investigation.

The controversy intensified after old social media posts from 2012 and 2013, said to be linked to singer Simisola Kosoko, known as Simi, resurfaced online. The renewed debate came shortly after Simi publicly supported castration for rapists and said “almost every woman she knows has been sexually assaulted.”

Critics then pointed to the old posts, while Simi said the comments were misunderstood and were not an admission of improper conduct. NAPTIP said child protection remains its priority and urged the public to support the process with credible information.
