Nigerian comedian, skitmaker and singer Nasiru Lawal, widely known as Nasboi, has spoken publicly about his recent struggle with depression, saying sustained online trolling affected his confidence and emotional well-being.

In a video shared on his social media pages, the entertainer said months of negative comments left him feeling overwhelmed, even though he understood that public figures often face criticism. He said the pressure gradually weighed on him and changed how he saw himself.

Nasboi said he had been depressed for “a couple of months” after paying too much attention to hostile reactions online. According to him, the attacks made him feel “less of myself” and at some points “like I wasn’t enough.” He added that the experience reminded him that celebrities are still human and can be deeply affected by repeated abuse.

He said the situation initially pushed him to consider narrowing his career focus this year by stepping back from comedy skits and concentrating on music. However, he explained that he later decided against abandoning any part of his creative path.

The performer said he now intends to continue working across his strengths, including music, comedy and acting. He also indicated he may move further into movies, describing that direction as a natural extension of his work in performance.

Nasboi said his renewed confidence is grounded in faith, adding that he plans to keep creating despite criticism. He said he would not leave his career “for anybody” and believes he can still deliver quality work in multiple formats.

His comments add to growing conversations in Nigeria’s entertainment space about online harassment and the mental health impact of digital abuse. Industry observers have repeatedly called for healthier fan culture and more responsible engagement on social media, especially as creators increasingly build their careers in public view.

For Nasboi, the immediate message was clear: he acknowledged the setback, but said he is moving forward with stronger resolve and a broader plan for his career.
