Key players in Nigeria’s food sector gathered at the annual Nestle for Good Summit to push for better nutrition, stronger communities, and greener food systems. The one-day event took place at the Landmark Event Centre in Lagos. It was organised by Nestle Nigeria and drew a wide mix of attendees. These included government officials, health experts, development partners, academics, industry heads, civil society groups, and journalists. Nigeria is currently facing tough challenges in public health and food security. The summit offered a timely space for these groups to talk about how to create real, large-scale change. Wassim Elhusseini, the Managing Director and CEO of Nestle Nigeria PLC, was present. Also attending were Mrs. Folashade Bada Ambrose-Medebem, the Lagos State Commissioner for Commerce, Cooperatives, Trade and Investment, and Professor Akin Abayomi, the Commissioner for Health. Leaders from development bodies, public health agencies, and private firms joined them. The talks focused on practical ways to boost nutrition at every life stage. They also looked at strengthening local food networks and building tougher communities. Participants discussed how partnerships can solve linked problems in nutrition, jobs, and the environment. Elhusseini spoke at the event. He said the summit shows Nestle’s long-held view that creating shared value is key to their business. “At Nestle, we are guided by a simple but powerful purpose: to unlock the power of food to enhance quality of life for everyone, today and for generations to come. Delivering good food consistently and at scale depends on strong systems across the value chain — from responsible sourcing and manufacturing to distribution, livelihoods, capability development, and environmental sustainability,” he said. He added that Nestle for Good offers a clearer picture of how the company drives impact in nutrition, community well-being, and planetary health. Mrs. Ambrose-Medebem gave the keynote speech. She praised Nestle Nigeria for bringing stakeholders together to discuss issues vital to public health and economic growth. “The conversations we are having today are not only about food. They are about human capital, productivity, public health, economic growth, and ultimately, the future of our society,” she said. She stressed the need for ongoing teamwork between government, industry, development bodies, and communities. This collaboration is needed to deliver better nutrition results on a large scale. Victoria Uwadoka, who leads Corporate Communications, Public Affairs, and Sustainability at Nestle Nigeria, explained the company’s approach. She said the platform highlights the full range of Nestle’s impact. “Nestle for Good is not simply about showcasing individual initiatives. It is about demonstrating how our products, sourcing, partnerships, and community investments connect in practical ways to support healthier lives and more resilient communities,” she said. Patricia Ekaba, Head of Corporate Communications, Public Affairs, and Sustainability for Central and West Africa, also spoke. She highlighted the value of long-term, system-wide thinking. “Sustainable progress requires looking beyond short-term interventions. Business growth and social progress are interconnected, and lasting impact comes from creating value for both the business and the communities it serves,” she said. A major part of the summit was an impact showcase. Here, attendees heard real stories from people benefiting from Nestle’s projects. These included efforts in women empowerment, youth skills training, dairy farming, and environmental care. These stories showed how targeted actions across the supply chain help improve lives, strengthen communities, and promote sustainable habits. The summit also let stakeholders see how Nestle’s products and projects aid nutrition, jobs, and sustainability at various stages of the food system. The Nestle for Good Summit is a significant step in deepening dialogue and strengthening partnerships. These efforts can lead to measurable progress. As Nigeria tackles complex nutrition and development issues, Nestle Nigeria remains dedicated to working with stakeholders. They aim to drive practical solutions that improve quality of life on a large scale.
