No. 6 UConn delivered a dominant 72-40 win over No. 15 St. John's on Wednesday night, ending the Red Storm's 13-game winning run and moving back to first place in the Big East.
Tarris Reed Jr. led the Huskies with 20 points, 11 rebounds and six blocks, while Alex Karaban added 14 points. UConn held St. John's to 20% shooting and forced a prolonged scoring drought, with the Red Storm missing their final 24 field-goal attempts.
The Huskies, now 26-3 (16-2), avenged their February 6 defeat at Madison Square Garden and recorded their most lopsided win ever in the series. For St. John's (22-6, 15-2), it was the heaviest loss under coach Rick Pitino and their lowest-scoring outing since 2013.
UConn's starters outscored St. John's starters 61-28, and the Huskies finished with a 42-14 edge in points in the paint.
