Naetochukwu Oguegbu from Meadow Hall School grabbed all the attention at the Season 7 Dolphin Swimming League Awards. He took home the Most Valuable Player title in the Under-11 bracket.

Grange School and St Saviour’s School kept their titles as the top-performing schools in Nigeria’s leading schools swimming tournament.

Oguegbu won 15 gold medals. He shared the Best Male Swimmer honour with Aidan Dumuje-Abili from Grange, who is a known MVP winner. His strong showing marks him as the new star of the league, pointing to a change in Nigeria’s youth swimming.

Babatunde Fatayi-Williams, former President of the Nigeria Aquatics Federation, spoke at the busy Lagos event. He said the league is “the best to have emerged from Nigeria.”

He pointed out that former participants now represent the country in international, continental, and national events. Fatayi-Williams asked the federation to work with the Dolphin Swimming League to copy this success across the country.

Oluwatofunmi Ibidapo of Grange School was named Best Female Swimmer for the second year in a row. She won 14 gold medals and one silver.

She said: “After winning last year, I knew I had to redouble my effort to retain it. With my parents’ support, I achieved that. Next season, I hope to make it a triple win with even more dedication.”

Samuel Jesimiel, the League Technical Director, talked about how the competition helps development. He said it is already producing swimmers for Nigeria’s future. He thanked parents and guardians for their steady support, which pushes the technical team to keep raising standards.

Parents at the event praised the organisers for keeping the annual tournament going and promised to keep supporting it.

In team events, St Saviour’s School, Ikoyi scored 954.5 points to win Best Primary School. Grange School led the secondary school list with 1,074 points. Boken Club was named Best Club in both primary and secondary levels.

Dynaspro Sports Promotion runs the Dolphin Swimming League every year with Advanta Interactive Limited. The Lagos State Aquatic Association provides technical support. The Nigeria Aquatic Federation, the Nigeria Olympic Committee, and the Nigeria School Sport Federation sanction the event.
