Operatives of the Oyo State Police Command have arrested a 43-year-old man, Lateef Suleiman, over the alleged murder of Mustapha Amidu in Sepeteri town.

Police said the incident was first reported at the Ago Amodu Divisional Police Headquarters by Badmus Yunisa of Alegunlode Compound, Sepeteri. According to the report, the suspect accused the deceased of shooting him in a dream while he slept the previous night.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, Police Public Relations Officer Olayinka Ayanlade said Suleiman allegedly approached Amidu while he was seated, picked up a heavy rock and struck him on the head before fleeing the scene.

Ayanlade said the victim, identified as Mustapha Amidu, 52, was rushed to Ileri Oluwa Hospital in Sepeteri for treatment. Medical personnel later confirmed him dead.

He said a police team led by the Divisional Police Officer of Ago-Amodu Division visited both the scene of the incident and the hospital as part of preliminary investigation. The command added that the suspect has been arrested, confessed to the offence, and is cooperating with investigators.

The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, CP Femi Haruna, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for what the command described as a discreet and thorough investigation.

The development has raised concern in the Sepeteri community, where residents are still reacting to details of the killing. Police authorities did not announce any additional arrests in connection with the case at the time of reporting.

The command urged members of the public to continue sharing useful information with security agencies and to avoid taking the law into their own hands, especially in situations involving suspicion, rumours or personal disputes.

Investigators are expected to complete documentation and forward the case for further legal steps after the SCID concludes its inquiry.
