Pupils get tuition waivers as Lagos school clocks 30 has drawn renewed public attention as more details emerged from officials and eyewitness accounts on Thursday.

Dansol High School, Lagos, has granted tuition waivers to winners of its anniversary essay competition as part of activities marking its 30th Founders’ Day celebration.

The essay competition held at the school’s hall in Ikeja, Lagos, featured pupils and students across the Nursery and Primary, Junior and Senior High School sections writing on the theme: “How can our school, community, students, staff and alumni work effectively to build a legacy that will exceedingly and abundantly influence the next generation of Nigerian leaders?”

Executive Director, Mrs Omotara Olanitori, announced the prizes while presenting awards to the winners of the essay competition.

Olanitori declared that first-place winners in all categories would enjoy a full waiver of third-term tuition fees, second-place winners would receive a 50 per cent waiver, while third-place winners would get a 25 per cent discount.

In the Nursery and Primary category, Esther Ngharamike emerged first, Obaloluwa Olanitori second, and Elizabeth Oyerinde third.

Oreoluwa Sowunmi won the Junior High School category, followed by Oluwadunmininu Fadipe and Victoria Durojaiye as first runner-up and second runner-up, respectively.

In the Senior category, David Durojaiye came first, Mayowa Ojomo was second, and Olumide Olaiya placed third.

Other awards included Student of the Year, won by TitobiOluwa Oluwadamilare; Best Staff Award with a N200,000 prize; recognition for top donors towards the 2025 charity drive; and honours for staff members who had served meritoriously in the past decade.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Executive Director, Mrs Omotara Olanitori, commended the founder and President of Dansol Christian Mission, Mrs Adunola Akinyemiju, for laying what she described as a solid foundation that has continued to nurture godly children.

She affirmed that the school, also known as Dansol Christian Mission, remained committed to sustaining a legacy of godliness, academic excellence and positive societal impact.

Olanitori attributed the school’s growth over the past three decades to faith and consistency of vision.

“The secret of the school’s growth, first and foremost, is Almighty God’s presence. We are a praying school and community. We set out to run a Christian school 30 years ago,” she said.

She recalled that Akinyemiju started with a tutorial centre in 1993 in Ikeja to prepare students for WAEC and UTME examinations, before establishing Dansol High School on October 9, 1995. The school commenced academic activities on January 24, 1996.

Olanitori said the institution had sustained the founder’s standards, particularly in promoting academic integrity and discouraging examination malpractice, while paying attention to students’ emotional, mental and spiritual development.

The Principal and Acting Director of Dansol Schools, Mrs Tsola Oladosu, reaffirmed the school’s commitment to raising spiritually grounded and academically sound students.

“Dansol is a Christian school, but we have people of other faiths. We partner with parents in raising responsible children. We discipline students when necessary, but do not abandon them. We blend biblical truths with academic excellence,” she said.

Oladosu also noted that the school was recently rated the best private secondary school in Ikeja District 6 and urged the government to create a safer environment for families, as well as revive teachers’ training colleges to enhance educational standards.
