The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has restated the commitment of the Federal Government to the Fiscal Responsibility Commission (FRC), praising the agency for its role in promoting transparency and accountability in public financial management.

Speaking during an event marking the conclusion of tenure of the outgoing Chairman of the Commission, Victor Muruako, Akume emphasised that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains dedicated to strengthening institutions that ensure prudent management of the nation's resources.

The Fiscal Responsibility Commission was established to enforce the Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2007, which seeks to promote prudent management of Nigeria's resources, ensure long-term macroeconomic stability, and secure greater accountability and transparency in fiscal operations within the public sector.

Under the outgoing leadership, the Commission has been instrumental in monitoring compliance with the fiscal responsibility framework by Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) of government.

Analysts say the SGF's reaffirmation signals the government's intent to maintain institutional continuity and reinforce mechanisms for fiscal discipline at a time when Nigeria faces significant economic challenges, including rising debt obligations and revenue generation constraints.
