Czech top-flight side SK Sigma Olomouc have completed the signing of Nigerian teenager Sokoato Samuel from Mahanaim FC, with the Kaduna-discovered defender becoming the latest player to move from the local development side to Europe.
Mahanaim FC confirmed the transfer and described the 18-year-old as one of its home-grown prospects, developed through the club’s football programme and wider character-building system. Club officials said the move followed sustained interest in Samuel’s athletic profile, defensive awareness and versatility across multiple positions.
Although he is naturally a left-back, Samuel can also operate higher up the pitch as a wing-forward when required. That flexibility, alongside his physical presence and confidence in one-on-one situations, reportedly shaped Sigma Olomouc’s decision to bring him in this window.
Reacting to the move, Samuel said his progress was made possible by family backing and structured preparation at Mahanaim FC.
“I give thanks to God for giving me the grace to be here. I want to thank my family, mum, dad and my siblings for their support towards my career,” he said.
He also thanked his former club for the environment that prepared him for the next step in his career.
“I’m very grateful to Mahanaim FC for everything. The lessons, training and discipline instilled in me are what have helped me,” Samuel said.
Sigma Olomouc are currently involved in UEFA Conference League action this season and already have another Mahanaim graduate, Ahmad Ghali, within their set-up. That existing pathway is expected to help Samuel settle as he adjusts to a new country, league tempo and tactical demands.
For Mahanaim FC, the deal is another statement about its youth pipeline and recruitment model in northern Nigeria. For Samuel, it marks the beginning of a bigger test in European football, where performance consistency and adaptation will shape how quickly he earns regular first-team opportunities.
