Super Eagles goalkeeper Amas Obasogie has been suspended for three months by Tanzanian side Singida Black Stars over an alleged match-fixing issue now under investigation by the club.
Singida Black Stars announced the sanction in a statement dated 27 February 2026, saying its disciplinary committee acted against two players. The club said Obasogie would remain out pending investigation into the allegation, while midfielder Khalid Aucho was also suspended for three months for alleged indiscipline and absenteeism.
Obasogie featured in Singida’s 1–1 league draw against Namungo a day before the announcement. The club did not name the specific match linked to the allegation and did not release further evidence in its first public notice.
In the statement, Singida Black Stars said: “The management of Singida Black Stars SC, through its Disciplinary Committee, has taken disciplinary action against players Khalid Aucho and Amas Obasogie as follows: 1. Khalid Aucho: Has been sanctioned for indiscipline and absenteeism from work and has therefore been suspended from duty for three months. 2. Amas Obasogie: Has been suspended from duty for three months pending investigation into allegations of match-fixing.”
The club added that players and staff must continue to observe discipline, accountability and respect for the team. As of the time of reporting, Obasogie and his camp had not issued a public response.
The development is significant for Nigerian football followers because Obasogie has remained in the Super Eagles picture over the last three years, mostly as a backup option. He was also part of Nigeria’s squad that finished third at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
His suspension comes shortly after another case involving a Nigerian goalkeeper, Maduka Okoye of Udinese. In 2023, Okoye was investigated in Italy after suspicious betting patterns were flagged around a yellow card incident in a Serie A game. Okoye denied wrongdoing. He and three friends were investigated, and he later received a two-month ban that ended in October 2025.
Football bodies, including FIFA and CAF, treat betting and manipulation claims as high-risk integrity issues. Their rules allow provisional restrictions while inquiries are ongoing, and penalties can include fines, short bans, or longer suspensions from football activity where violations are established.
For now, Singida Black Stars say Obasogie’s case is still at investigation stage, meaning no final finding of guilt has been announced by the club. The coming period is likely to determine whether he returns quickly to domestic action in Tanzania or faces a longer disciplinary path that could affect his immediate national team prospects. Club findings, if released publicly, are expected to shape the next phase of the case.
