Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has said again that Senator Ireti Kingibe will not return to the Senate as FCT representative after the next election cycle.
Wike made the remarks during a media chat with journalists in Abuja, where he questioned the senator’s record in office and said public officials should be assessed by what they deliver. According to him, political office should come with visible results that residents can point to.
“Senator Ireti Kingibe won’t come back as senator of the FCT, and I still stand by it,” Wike said.
He also responded to claims that the senator had tried to contact him but could not reach him. Wike said he does not have Kingibe’s phone number and denied avoiding her.
“I don’t even know her number. I’m not the man who pretends. I don’t pretend, and I know I don’t pretend,” he said.
Wike went on to say that both ministers and legislators should be judged by their report cards in office. He said his own scorecard would be open to public scrutiny and argued that elected officials should face the same test.
“I told you, mark it today. Today is what? Second of March. Look, you know my report card will show. Your report card should also show. What did you do as a senator when you were?” he said.
The minister added that his focus remains on taking projects beyond the city centre to satellite towns and communities in the FCT. He said residents should be able to see practical work on the ground, not just political exchanges in the media.
Wike said he is open to working with different actors, but insisted that any cooperation must be tied to measurable outcomes for the public. “I want to collaborate. But collaborate on what?” he asked, arguing that public service should stay focused on concrete ideas and implementation.
His comments are likely to fuel further debate over political alignments and performance narratives ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle in the FCT.
